CLASS EXPECTATIONS
Students are expected to bring MATERIALS to class. This includes paper, pencil/pen, and textbook. A small amount of graph paper should also be available.
Each student should have home access to a SCIENTIFIC CALCULATOR for math classes beyond Algebra 1. We have graphing calculators in the classroom. A student can use these calculators before school, after school, during class, or during round table. They are not allowed to be taken home.
There is a designated place in the classroom for students to leave their TEXTBOOK if they do not need to take it home. Each student is assigned a textbook and is expected to use only that textbook.
The class maintains a NOTEBOOK for each unit. The notebook entries include class notes and examples as well as some practice assignments. I suggest that the students have a 3-ring binder in which to maintain the notebook. At each test, I will collect the notebook entries separate from the actual binder. I will then assign the notebook a quiz grade based on presence and completeness of notebook entries.
A CLASS BREAK is provided halfway through each 90 minute class. I understand that there are times that a student has to leave class for personal reasons at times besides the provided break. The student needs to realize that class goes on and that they are missing instruction.
HOMEWORK is an extension of class practice assignments. It is not unusual for me to give the students the answers so that they can check their work. This is practice so the student and I need to know if they understand the concept. I need to know the next day if the student had difficulty on the assignment.
CORRECTION PAGES are opportunities to correct mistakes on some graded assignments. A specific format is required. Corrections are completed on a separate sheet of paper, the original problem is written, all work is shown, and the new answer is circled. The correction page is then stapled to the front of the original graded assignment. If a student did not do the original assignment, I do allow them to turn it in for the first time as the correction opportunity but they do not get an additional correction opportunity.
